It is with great sadness that I write this tribute to my husband Allan John Elrick Beuthin who passed away suddenly on the 28 February 2015 after a weeks’ struggle with leukemia. Although we started backabuddy together, Al was the driver and face behind backabuddy and I know that he went the extra mile to assist charities and charity champions forming close partnerships and friendships with many of you who had never met him. His work with backabuddy was a far cry from his life as a former stockbroker and banker. He brought his considerable people and business skills to an entirely new world of charities and causes and in working with you was able to grow. Al was an encourager to so many people and left his magic on everyone and everything he did.
In lieu of flowers we have asked our partners and friends to make a contribution to the Sunflower Bone Marrow Foundation registered on Backabuddy through www.backabuddy.co.za.
Allan was delighted when Backabuddy hit the R21m mark at the end of last year, with 3, 500 charity champions, 1,000 registered charities and close to 33,000 donors.
I thank you for your loyal support for Backabuddy and wish to advise that we are currently forming a plan of action but in this interim period will not be registering new champions, charities groups and events on the backabuddy website. Contributions from existing charity champions will still come in and will be paid out to the charities on a weekly basis. We will keep you posted on further developments.
No new champions or charities will be able to register on our Backabuddy website and this includes new groups and events. We will keep you posted of further developments.
To all BackaBuddy Champions, charities and donors,
We are honoured to be given the opportunity to take BackaBuddy forward.
Allan, Sue and their team have been pioneers in South Africa in creating an excellent one-to-one giving platform that has, through the many, many individual donations & support, created so much positive change in South Africa.
Our mission will be to grow the platform and our communities in South Africa that support the kind of change that is needed to make our world a better place.
We're looking to you to help us in this journey and to speak to us about the projects, people and ideas you believe in and would like to see realised.
BackaBuddy will be back online on Thursday 9th April 2015. We'll look forward to joining you there.
We exist for change,
Patrick Schofield & The Ripple-BackaBuddy team 062 163 2276
To all our Backabuddy champions, charities and donors,
I am delighted to say that Backabuddy has found a rightful successor to carry on the Allan Beuthin BackaBuddy legacy.
Thank you for being so patient as the process has taken longer than I first thought.
Al and I loved working with you all as it was a chance not only for one-on-one engagement with passionate people but also through Backabuddy an amazing opportunity to drive positive change in the world and make a difference. For this opportunity - I cannot thank you enough.
Ripple.org.za as an online platform operating in the crowd funding space will complement BackaBuddy very nicely as it is directed to campaigns and causes.
Patrick Schofield and his team will be taking over BackaBuddy from Wednesday 1 April 2015 and they can be reached on +27 62 163 2276
