Some people leave footprints without ever asking for recognition.
For the past 10 years, Charles has been one of those people at Stellenbosch District Riding Club.
If you've ever competed at SDRC, attended an event, or simply visited the grounds, chances are you've met Charles. He has opened countless gates, carried equipment, helped set up arenas, lent a hand whenever needed, and greeted everyone with his warm smile and gentle nature. He has quietly become part of the heart of our club.
Charles has never asked for much.
For several years now, he has been courageously living with Parkinson's disease. As the illness slowly robbed him of his strength and mobility, he continued coming to work because he had no choice. There was no pension waiting for him. No retirement fund. No financial safety net. He worked because he needed to survive.
As a club, we have stood by Charles for as long as we possibly could because he has become family to us.
