Dear Friends, Here's a great opportunity to really improve the lives of some desperately needy members of our community. Our appeal this year is on behalf of our adopted charities: the Rosebank Refuge, the Christ Church Christian Care Centre, Kgosi Neighbourhood Foundation and the Woodside Sanctuary.
Between them, these amazing organisations provide the most compassionate care and shelter for pre-school children, learners, adults and those suffering from various stages of physical and mental disability.
We're again using the Rotary Spring Walk as our fundraising event, and Sue and I, together with our fellow members, are taking part in order to highlight this most worthwhile campaign and to bring the plight of needy our fellow-citizens to your attention. Rotary Johannesburg New Dawn |
The Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn is supporting local charities involved with Health, homelessness, job-creation and education. Beneficiaries include the Rosebank Shelter, Nkosi Neighbourhood Foundation, Headway and Baragwanath hospital. http://rotaryjoburgnewdawn.blogspot.com/ MERCY SHELTERS FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE MERCY SHELTERS FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE provide safe, hygienic transitional accommodation to some 220 people nightly. These homeless men and women are given breakfast and dinner daily at an approximate cost of R10 per day for the meal. An additional 250 who cannot be accommodated due to a lack of space receive a cooked mid-morning meal daily.
The Mercy Shelters provide 3 homeless shelters in Johannesburg and also provide 500 families in Soweto with nutritional support packages twice a month.
The Shelters not only provide desperately needed short-term help to the homeless, but also equip them with vital assistance to enable them to become independent in the form of skills training in basic computer literacy, sewing, beading, knitting and pattern drafting. The Shelters also provide a social worker for counseling.
