We have done it! We made the gruelling journey in 11hours and 24 minutes. It was a very long day, but overall a great experience. Except for very sore and stiff legs, we are both doing great!
Please read this story: CJ and his sister Sumaya have hearing disabilities. Both of them attend the Carel du Toit Centre in Pretoria, where they are currently learning to speak. Sumaya is 4 years old and CJ is 2 years old. Mommy Juanita had to relocate to Pretoria, while Daddy Calvin and the rest of the family had to stay behind in Bethal. The children desperately need funds for their Speech and Occupational therapy and the money raised through this project will be utilised for this specific need. They both have recently been approved by the Cochlear Implant programme to receive cochlear implants and we will also contribute some of the mony raised, towards this goal. This would open their worlds to endless opportunities. Please support them.
My name is Thea and I am a former parent of the Carel du Centre. I have a deaf child of my own. Her name is Jana. She is now 9 years old. The progamme that was followed at the Carel du Toit Centre, prepared Jana to the extent where she is now a grade 3 learner in a mainstream school. The children of the Carel du Toit Centre have always been one of my passions. It has always been my dream to run the Comrades marathon. I will be running this ultra-marathon with my best friend Amanda and we would like to raise funds for Sumaya and CJ to ensure that they have the same opportunities that my daughter had.
We would like to thank everybody that have contributed so far. We appreciate it. There are about two weeks left before the Comrades, so please make these children's dreams come true. Carel du Toit Trust /Centre - Pretoria |
The Carel du Toit Trust/Centre is situated in Glenwood Road, Lynnwood Glen Pretoria . We provide a service that makes it possible for deaf children to acquire normal language and speech. Also for children with various speech problems, to receive the necessary therapy to get them on ther road to full speech, and language. After completing the program the children can go on to mainstream education in ordinary schools and integrate into our hearing society where they can eventually follow their dreams. Project 2012 SUPPORT A CHILD: Subsidize school fees that the parents are unable to pay! (We never turn away a child away from the program no matter if the parents are unable to pay fees.) Now begins a whole new experinece of sound as they go through the program. CJ and Sumaya would also like to say a special thank you to the organisers of all the fundraising through the Pretoria Rekord Foundation who have raised enough funding to go towards the whole year's fees costs for both children. - The Wiehaan Foundation for funding to cover all related costs for the Implant over an above what the medical aid contributed as well as further costs for the extramural activities the children have at the centre (Musical appreciation and ball skills). |
