The Child Abuse Protection Programme is a major project of Just Us 4 Children and our goal is to be able to fund and implement the programme in all under-privileged schools in KZN and eventually South Africa. At the moment we have identified a primary school in Phoenix, KZN in which approximately 60% of their students have been abused or are being abused in one form or the other.
 
The programme is run over a year and ideally should be implemented annually due to the fact that the dangers of abuse to a child changes as the child gets older and the programme is amended according to age.
 
The purpose of the programme is educate learners, educators and parents or care-givers on all aspects of child abuse (age-appropriate for children) so as to empower any victim or possible victim of abuse to speak out against the abuse.
 
Secondly we implement child safety policies, procedures and practices within the school to assist educators in protecting children and identifying and carefully dealing with any disclosure or suspected abuse to ensure no further damage is done.
 
Finally we educate parents and care-givers on the various dangers their children face and how they can identify and protect their children from abuse.
 
The cost of the programme for this school of 600 children is R120.00 per child for the year (R72 000 per annum)
 
Once we get money for this school, we can then move onto another school and so forth but this is one of our big projects. Down the line we want to start a feeding scheme, stationery, warm clothing etc etc but that is step number 6 or 7......
