BLOUBERG/ROBBEN ISLAND DOUBLE SWIM

In December, 4 courageous people will brave the rough, icy cold, great white infested Cape Town waters, and attempt to swim from Blouberg Strand to Robben Island, and back!

Why, you ask yourselves...

Well, to raise funds for a very worthy cause...

KIDNEYBEANZ,  a non-profit organisation supporting kids with severe kidney malfunctions.

Who are they?

Frank Del Castello , Phillip Chappell, Milton Breast, Allan Jameson

The swim is one of the most extreme swims you can get. The currents are notoriously treacherous, and can seriously increase their time spent in the water.

Their biggest enemy is the water temperature; it can be anything between 10 and 14 degrees. They are not allowed to wear wetsuits, because of the buoyancy they provide.

The swim of 16km, disregarding current influence, should take anything up to 7 hours.  However, should the current be unfavourable, it would have a direct influence on their time spent in the water, and the possibly fatal result of hypothermia, becomes a very daunting reality.

These waters are also popular feeding grounds for the greatest predator of the oceans, the great white shark. Robben Island in English is Seal Island, the great white sharks favourite meal.

To attract more attention, in order to raise funds for kidneybeanz, we are trying to raise funds for the swim and the production of a television programme for supersport.
