Personal message
The Children in the Wilderness programme is dedicated to helping disadvantaged children see the beauty and potential in the wild places of Africa. Using environmental education, therapeutic recreation and good old-fashioned fun, Children in the Wilderness creates an awareness of interpersonal skill and an increased involvement in the environment whilst fostering the creative spirit. The programme develops resilience in the children, increases their self-esteem and therefore builds and strengthens their capacities to cope with life’s challenges. It also provides them with the life skills necessary to actualise their greatest potential. Children in the Wilderness sets out to create hope in the lives of children where and when it is least expected.
As part of our ongoing efforts to raise funds for this wortwhile cause we thought we would join the rest of the world in soccer mania! Children in the Wilderness Botswana and Wilderness Safaris are proud to announce the Soccer in the Wilderness Tournament!
In 2010, over a period of three months, a soccer tournament will take place between all our Wilderness Safaris concessions in Botswana – a battle of the Titans between six soccer teams made up of staff from each concession. Play-offs will take place in March with the final happening at Vumbura Plains on the 1st of May 2010 – it promises to be mighty clash, filled with excitement and thrills!
The aim of the great Soccer in the Wilderness tournament is to raise much-needed funds for our pride and joy, Children in the Wilderness Botswana. In addition to the prestige and cup that the winners will receive, the concession that raises the most money for Children in the Wilderness will stand to win great prizes.
Soccer in the Wilderness has been conceived and is run by Wilderness Safaris Botswana staff members themselves, combining their love of Children in the Wilderness programmes with the Wilderness aim of promoting healthy lifestyles amongst its people.
It is therefore fitting that we use the favourite sport of 2010 to build healthy outlooks, bodies, team spirit and inspiration – and raise funds for a programme that helps the children of Botswana and teaches them about their own health and lifestyle choices.
