Cheetah and wild dog are among the most endangered carnivores in Africa. In South Africa, Kruger National Park is one of the last remaining natural habitats of both species. Janet Edwards (Katie Cheetah) and Kath Potgieter (Wayne Wild Dog) have both worked passionately for the Carnivore Conservation Group of the Endangered Wildlife Trust for a number of years. It is their goal to raise funds for the conservation of the cheetah and wild dog.
If you are in Kruger National Park during the Easter holidays (April 2009) you may be priviledged enough to catch a glimpse of not only actual cheetahs and wild dogs but this pair of crazy, determined, tireless, slightly insane, somewhat sweaty, but most of all dedicated characters bounding around in full fleece cheetah and wild dog costumes. The goal of this is to ensure all visitors to Kruger are aware of the cheetah and wild dog census. The census relies on photos of these endangered carnivores taken by the visitors in order to count the cheetah and wild dog overall numbers in the park.
