Rotary Spring Walk Sunday 5th September 2010, Modderfontein

I will be walking 10km to raise money for the Rotary Club of Johannesburg New Dawn's 2010 projects. Our adopted charities are the Christ Church Christian Care Centre, the Woodside Sanctuary and McAuley House, all of them in Johannebsurg. All these institutions provide care and shelter for pre-school children, learners, adults and those suffering from various stages of physical and mental disability.

The Christ Church Christian Care Centre (5C's) - for instance - is home to about 60 former street children and abandoned babies.  The children are all at school,well cared for in an exceptional facility, an old hotel in Louis Botha Avenue, Johannesburg.  The Centre currently spends R62 000 on electricity.  Solar Heating would save most of this but will cost approximately R500 000 to install.  We are already sponsors of their Soccer Team and it has done rather well in the Street Children's League this year.  We have sent one of their scholars to a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp and we are helping with their library and their computer room.  Putting in Solar Water Heating will help them so much financially and enable them to take in more children as they have the space but not the funds.
