Sibusiso Vilane - South Pole Expedition

Two years ago Alex Harris and I, Sibusiso Vilane, set off to walk unsupported and unassisted from the coast of Antartica to the South Pole. We walked for 1113 Kms after which we reached the South Pole and became the first South Africans to achieve this great goal. This same feat made me become the first and only black person in the world to walk unsupported and unassisted in an expedition to the South Pole. Like my Mount Everest triumph I had hoped to get an inspirational book published about this great African story, but lack of funding has seen a full two years go by without the story being told to all Africans alike.

I have therefore decided to run the Comrades Marathon in order to raise funds for the publication of my book and at this moment it remains "The untold success story". I am also very proud to announce that I am a patron of the Conservation Leadership Programme of The Endangered Wildlife Trust. A percentage of my target and/or of book sales will be donated to the Conservation Leadership Programme.

I would like to challenge publishing companies, banks, fellow mountaineers and to anyone who would be interested in reading my success story once it is published.

If you would like to learn more about the Conservation Leadership Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust please e-mail kirstyb@ewt.org.za.
