A group of Durban friends and colleagues will once again be running the Spar Ladies 10km Challenge. The event takes place on Sunday 29 August and this year they will be running in aid of Sethani.
Situated in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, Sethani is working to alleviate orphan poverty in KwaNgcolosi, an area with poor infrastructure, high unemployment and poor educational resources. Many of the community have been affected by HIV/AIDS, leaving children orphaned or living with extended family who are willing to care for them but unable to provide financially.
Amongst other things, Sethani provides care and resources for the children and food parcels for the neediest families.

Sethani |
Sethani is a community-based organisation situated in the semi-rural area of KwaNgcolosi alongside Inanda Dam, Valley of a Thousand Hills. It started in 1994 as a soup kitchen and outreach to the poor, combined with ministry. Co-founders Pastor Eric Shezi and Debbie Wells realised that more than soup once a week was required to make a difference in the lives of the people and thus Sethani was born “To be a catalyst for transformation in KwaNgcolosi by empowering and uplifting members of the community, especially the weak and vulnerable and to establish credible projects that focus on key needs”. The word Sethani is an acronym for SEbenza, THAndaza and NIkela (Zulu for work, pray and give). |
