Lazy Lions at B4B

the sporting event of the year...
... no it's not the Winter Olympics in Vancouver or the Soccer World Cup here in South Africa, but the 4th annual Bike4Beasts Mountain Bike Challenge. This 65km adventure through the sandveld of Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve is not only a physical challenge, but a fundraiser for the Endangered Wildlife Trust. This year's mascot for the race is the African lion, which also happens to be the study animal for my graduate work which I have embarked upon and having spent two years studying lions on Venetia, I couldn't not sign up for this year's race. There's no knowing where this year's money raised at B4B will go, but there's a good chance that some of it will go towards lion conservation (if not, all of their projects are worthwhile).
The race is on the 25th of April and I bought a bike in January (not having been on a bike for four years!) and have been riding with a local club on Saturday's (read pushing my bike up hills and trying to stay on on the downhills!) and as I don't have a car yet, I've been biking around Pretoria loads so I hope to be at least somewhat prepared for the race!
