On the 24th of May, I and a few thousand runners will be on the starting line-up in Pietermaritzburg, hoping to complete the 89KM down run to Durban within the 12 hour cut-off. This will be my second consecutive run and I will be looking at getting a third Comrades "Back to Back" medal at the finish.
On that day I will also be thinking about people that are less fortunate than me and that depend on wheelchairs for their mobility. I support the work that Wheel4Life has done for the disadvantaged and this year through my Comrades run, I am hoping to raise funds in their support.
I particularly hope that we can raise enough money to make a difference in Mr Mothupi’s life.
Mr Mothupi is 52 years old and lives in Rustenburg. He was a boiler Maker in one of the mines before he was involved in a car accident where he sustained a C4-C5 vertebrae fracture and a damage to his spinal cord. As a result of his injury, Mr Mothupi is unable to feel anything below his armpits. Mr Mothupi had plans to open a small shop and to expand his role in the community - but this sadly had to be put on hold. He was the bread winner in his household and he also supported his ailing mother. The family income was further reduced as Mr Mothupi’s wife had to stop working to take care of him. Mr Mothupi requires a wheelchair and a pressure cushion as soon as possible.
Running the Comrades is a big challenge and your support for Wheel4Life will encourage me in a big way to take every step towards the finish. Kindly support this cause by donating the little you have so we can make a difference to as many people like Mr Mothupi as we can.
