Hiv Abandoned Babies & Infants Trust

HABIT (HIV Abandoned Babies & Infants Trust) is registered as an Non-Profit Organisation NPO (056/364). Donations are tax deductible S18A.Our aim is to care for HIV/AIDS Affected & Abandoned Babies, providing them with a caring Christian environment in which they are nurtured physically, emotionally & spiritually. A pilot “Baby House” was established at 8 Royal Palm Avenue in Umhlanga Ridge, and was run by the Greenham family. A second Baby house was launched in April2009 at the home of Pastor William and Helen Colledge. A third house in Herrwood Drive was launched in 2010 with Justin and Cathy Foxton. Our desire is to encourage the establishment of similar homes in the community providing a homely environment for the babies. These homes will care for the babies in the transition phase between being abandoned and being placed in a permanent caring environment. Child Welfare – Durban who “supply” babies to us, are very keen on this concept. HABIT has 5 Trustees, one of which is a medical doctor whose team is committed to taking physical care of the babies. This will greatly assist us as the more expensive costs envisaged will be the medical care of the very sick babies. Every effort will be made to give the baby dignity and proper care with the appropriate medication. Where applicable we administer Anti-retroviral drugs.
