The Nav Challenge
The event is open to both mountain bikers and trail runners and promises to be an exhilarating morning out in the spectacular Grabouw valley.
Competitors will need to grab a map, pull on their running shoes or helmets and hit the forest, farms, rivers and hills to find as many of the hidden checkpoints as possible within the 3 hour time limit.
Each checkpoint will be allocated a different score/value depending on how hard it is to reach. The maximum score that any competitor can obtain is 200.
Your pledge: we would like you to pledge a donation per point that your buddy obtains. This can be as little as 50c per point (i.e. total pledge of R100) or as large as you like. It is going to be extremely dififcult for your buddy to reach all the checkpoints in the 3 hour time limit so here's your chance to make them sweat - payback for that time that your buddy........
Remember, all the profits from this event go to MaAfrika Tikkun so DIG DEEP.
Totalsports Challenge Terra Firma
The Terra Firma is the same as the Totalsports Challenge but without the water legs. It consists of a 50km road cycle, followed by the 13km road run, a 25km mountain bike leg and then the 9km beach run.
2010 AEGIS Kilimanjaro Challenge for Noah's Ark Pr
Anton du Plessis, Vice President Business Development AEGIS BPO Holdings SA made a decision on his 50th birthday to realise a dream - climbing the highest point in Africa. Anton's dream has given rise to the 'Kilimanjaro Challenge" In realising the dream, Anton decided not to focus on the physical challenges of the climb but rather on the significance of it. In every small step and each little victory along the path of training, he realised that the climb had taken on a greater meaning. That meaning culminated in his deciding to climb in aid of a worthy charity and to include and involve AEGIS. The AEGIS ethos of being involved in meaningful activities gave rise to the initiative to partake and sponsor THE AEGIS 2010 Kilimanjaro Challenge for Noah's Ark Project.
The objective is to involve and include as many people possible. The challenge will start on the 22nd of October 2010. The 4 kilometer vertical climb then became the real challenge, with Anton anticipating reaching the summit on the 28th of October 2010.
Anton's challenge is to summit. We are putting the challenge to you to be part of this climb. Share in this experience and opportunity. Rise to the challenge and involve as many people as possible.
Your and Anton's steps will assist in the realisation of many a dream. Let us reach the highest peak for the children of Noah's Ark. What are we waiting for? Let's begin!
High Five Challenge
This is a Guinness World Record attempt to break the "Most High Fives in One Hour - Individual" record. Currently the record stands at 408. We can beat it! On Mandela Day 2010 I spent 67 minutes handing out FREE HIGH FIVES at Sandton City as my dedication to Mandela for his struggle. Although not a conventional way to spread goodwill and charity, it certainly got attention and smiles... and over 600 high fives.
I will be repeating this same feat, but this time we are registered to break the Guinness World Record! It will be a SOUTH AFRICAN record!
More importantly, every single high five will be sponsored and all proceeds will go to the incredible Berea-Hillbrow Home of Hope. At any time, up to 50 women, girls and children are being saved and protected from human trafficking, drug addiction, sexual slavery and poverty. Mam' Khanyi has created a sanctuary for these girls and we can all help change the lives of these 50 people. Mam' Khanyi recently won the "Women of the Year" award - Youth division for her efforts. This accolade is amazing, but still not enough to give these girls a proper home. Currently housed in just 2 flats in Hillbrow, we need to raise R1 million to buy them proper, self-sustaining accommodation. This property will also allow the access to Government grants... currently the home receives only private sector support. This High Five record hopes to raise enough funds to give the girls their own home - for many, their first - and so that Mam' Khanyi, the girls and all the helpers can continue their great work.
Please sponsor me only 50c per high five that you think I will receive. You can choose to deposit only a few rands to sponsor a few high fives, or you can choose to sponsor as many high fives as I receive or you can sponsor as much as you want. Right now though, all we ask is 50c per high five! Every single cent counts!

Sailing for Diabetes
Ahoy There!
Eddie Crane here, avid sailing fan, Type II Diabetic and hopefully the 1st South African diabetic to sail around the world!
But I need funding - 36 000 British Pounds! (That's roughly R400 000). Once the race fee has been paid, 25% of all further funds received will be donated to Diabetes South Africa.
Will you help make this diabetic's dream come true?
Cape to Cairo
20 years ago I had a dream of riding my motorcycle from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt, however 20 years ago, I was 19 years old and broke and therefore this idea was to remain a dream that had to be postponed (like so many things in our lives) for a point in the future when other priorities would not be more important!
We all get so caught up in our lives, the complications, the details and the reasons why our dreams have to be postponed until a more suitable and convenient time, however, the truth is that there is never a convenient time and the best time, ultimately, is always RIGHT NOW! If one consistently defers their dreams, hopes and aspirations into the future, inevitably time runs out, and what started as a dream will end as just that and therefore I have decided (with my family’s consent) to jump off the treadmill of Daily Grind and swap it out for a motorbike for 8 weeks in order to fulfill one of my dreams.
On the 30th of June 2010, my Brother in Law, Dale Edwards and I will be leaving Cape Town for a 56 day, 12,745km trip to Cairo. The preparation from bike to visas, to insurance, to medical (the list goes on and on) has been immense but incredibly exciting nonetheless.
Many of us have the means and wherewithal to undertake the dreams we want but elect to choose otherwise, many however, do not and that is the purpose of this email. MaAfrika Tikkun (http://www.maafrikatikkun.org.za/ ) is a South African non governmental, non profit charity organisation run by the Lubner family that in essence does just that; re-provide the possibility to dream and to create the possibility of turning those dreams into a reality. MaAfrika Tikkun is a charity focused on a child’s entire development, not a segmented charity that focuses only on ages 0 to 5, or pre school, or high school, but the whole spectrum of what it means to be a vulnerable and orphaned baby, child or teenager in an underprivileged society in South Africa today. Nelson Mandela himself is the Chief Patron of MaAfrika Tikkun!!
This charity resonates with me on many levels but I found it particularly apt in light of the decision to undertake a dream and the opportunity that this gives me to assist MaAfrika Tikkun to create the same possibility for underprivileged children in our country. Unlike many emails of this nature, I am not looking for any kind of sponsorship for my trip, but I am looking for your donation, regardless of its size to MaAfrika Tikkun. The basis of what I am proposing is that you pledge an amount (regardless of its size, from 1 cent, to 1 Rand, Pound, Dollar or Euro) for every kilometer completed and to effect this payment to MaAfrika Tikkun to assist them to provide food, care, education, health and social services to those that are desperately in need. Should you be willing to donate, please effect your donation right here on the secure Backabuddy website.
