This is my first 10km race and I want to raise funds for charity and keep myself motivated and committed.
Comrades Marathon
I have committed to running the Comrades Marathon on the 29th May 2011. I am sure most of you are asking, why would anyone voluntarily run a brutal 89km ultra marathon race? 89km is a long way. The runner's feet will slam into the hard road about 58,000 times each. All this pounding makes the runner's feet sore. It also hurts the ankles, legs, knees, hips, and so forth. Why would any sane person even think of trying to run an ultra marathon? Are marathoners even remotely sane?
The answer is simple. Because it's hard and it's there :-) We all need challenges and the sense of euphoria that comes from achieving a difficult personal goal.
So yeah I am a crazy but more importantly I am doing it for a good cause. As part of the finance networking committee, I am attempting to raise funds for an orphanage based in Olifantsfontein. The funds raised will be used to help fill the needs as identified by the charity. We are partnering with the Good Works program on this charity event. The finance team will then go to the orphanage to present the funds and also spend a fun filled day with the children.
So please dig deep and donate now. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in bettering the lives of these beautiful children.
Donating through BackaBuddy is simple, fast and totally secure.
To lead by example and kick start this challenge of raising R10 000, I will donate R10 for each pain staking kilometre I will be running.
Countdown begins now! 9 days to go…

RacingThePlanet
RacingThePlanet is a unique category of rough country footraces that take place over seven days and some 250 kilometers in remote and culturally rich locations around the world. Competitors must carry all their own equipment and food, are only provided with water and a place in a tent each day but are supported by professional medical and operations teams. RacingThePlanet is international; the events typically involve competitors from over 20 different countries who are able to mingle around the campfires and in their geographically mixed tents. Currently the events consist of the 4 Deserts, a series which encompasses the Gobi Desert in China, the Atacama Desert of Chile, the Sahara Desert in Egypt and Antarctica, and a fifth event which roves to a new location each year
