About This Campaign
My name is Sebastian Sonnekus. I’m a 15-year-old karate athlete from the Paarl–Wellington area, training and competing internationally.
In 2024 and 2025, I represented South Africa at the WUKF World Championships, first in Mexico and then, as part of the MASA WUKF Presidential Team, in Sweden where I am proud to say I managed to win a gold medal (Male Cadets Kata – Other Styles) as well as a silver medal (Male Cadets Kobudo – Short Weapons)!
I have now been given an extraordinary opportunity: An invitation to train in Okinawa, Japan — the birthplace of karate. For any karateka, this is not just a destination, but an honour. Training in Okinawa represents respect for the roots of the art, discipline and lifelong learning. It is something my family and I have been dreaming of since I started learning this beautiful art.
