Help Us Put Shoes on 1000 Young Feet This Mandela Day
Winter in South Africa is unforgiving.
Every morning, thousands of children wake up before sunrise and begin long walks to school in freezing temperatures. For many, this journey is made even harder because they walk barefoot or in torn, worn-out shoes. The pain of cold roads, sharp stones, and harsh weather becomes part of their daily reality — yet they continue walking because education remains their hope for a better future.
This Mandela Day 2026, the Basil Mabasa Foundation (BMF) wants to change that reality.
We have launched a mission to fundraise and donate 1000 pairs of school shoes to underprivileged learners, ensuring that no child has to endure winter barefoot on their journey to education.
