I am Elaine Brenkman, and I still remember the moment I first held a baby who had been abandoned. Tiny. Fragile. Silent. No blanket. No name.

As a mother of seven—one biological, two stepchildren, and four adopted—I know what it means to build a family not just through blood, but through love. Living in East London with my husband, my home has always been a place where children are seen, held, and given a chance to belong.

But my journey didn’t begin here. I come from a childhood marked by abuse—painful memories that could have shaped my story very differently. Instead, it shaped my purpose. I made a choice: that no child should feel forgotten. That no child should grow up without hope. And so, Guardians of Hope Place of Safety was born from that promise.

Every day, children in our country are abandoned, neglected, and abused. Newborns left with no one to care for them. Toddlers removed from unsafe homes. Little lives already marked by trauma before they even have a voice. These are not just statistics. These are children who need someone...
