During the night of the 24/25 November, a devastating fire tore through Picasso’s Mexican Taqueria in White River, leaving nothing but ash and heartbreak behind. This lively restaurant has been part of our town's story for more than a decade. It began as the dream of John and Lyn Davis in 2014 and quickly became one of White River's favourite gathering places. It was more than a restaurant. It was where we met friends, celebrated milestones, enjoyed shows, played Bingo, hosted fundraisers, and welcomed visitors from near and far. Its colour, its warmth, and its energy became part of White River’s identity.
Earlier this year, Picasso’s began a new chapter under the ownership of Brian Springorum and Garth Snyman. None of us imagined how suddenly that chapter would close. The fire on Monday night brought everything to a halt. The building is gone. The loss is immense. The owners are still processing the shock and the community is reeling.
