About This Campaign
A Historic Swim - “Making Waves for Inclusion”
A Robben Island to Blouberg Swim for the Down Syndrome Association Western Cape
This November, a determined group of nine open-water swimmers will take the challenging 7.4 km Robben Island to Blouberg open-ocean crossing.
What makes this year’s swim truly remarkable is that John will be attempting the crossing just weeks after turning 80 years old — and if successful, he’ll become the oldest person ever to complete this iconic cold-water challenge. Proving that age and adversity are no barriers to courage!
But this swim is about more than endurance and records.
Over the years, this iconic swim has proven to be a powerful vehicle for creating awareness and raising funds for worthy causes. This year, it carries an even deeper purpose — the message is one of resilience, inspiration, courage, and the power of community - values shared by both The Topaz Swim Buddies and everyone at the Down Syndrome Association Western Cape (DSAWC).
