The National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSMSA) is a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization serving as an umbrella body for over 100 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Shelters across South Africa. Established in 2008, the NSMSA with provincial representatives elected to advocate and address the pressing issues surrounding GBV and sheltering in South Africa as well as makes global representations on international platforms. 

The NSMSA envisions a society where women and their children are free and safe from GBVF. As a united voice on sheltering of women survivors of GBV and their children in South Africa, NSMSA ensures gender sensitivity and women’s safety through direct service provision for survivors of GBV and engages in lobbying and advocacy at provincial and national levels as well as policy and legislative changes.
