About This Campaign

My 24 year old daughter was involved in a horrific car accident on 27 May. She sustained several fractures... tibial plateau (knee), clavicle (collarbone), left wrist and L3 lumbar (spine). She had a liver haematoma and multiple perforations to her bowel. She was rushed to Addington hospital and underwent major surgery on 28 May - an exploratory laparotomy. She was discharged and readmitted several times despite the surgeons being fully aware of a bowel obstruction. Due to the surgery they performed, whether through error or simply due to it just happening, she has now developed Wilkies Syndrome and there is a small bowel obstruction - something the surgeons at Addington have not paid enough attention to. She was discharged for the last time on 13 July. We have since raised funds to take her to our family GP for treatment and to a specialist surgeon/gastroenterologist at St Augustines. She did a screening at Lake Smit and Partners and this is where the Wilkies Syndrome and small bowel obstruction were confirmed. The surgeon suggested that we take her back to Addington for surgery...
