In 2020, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with cancer in my right pelvis and hip.

The journey since then has been challenging, marked by rounds of radiology and chemotherapy. Eventually, I was referred to Prof Hoskin for a replacement of the affected areas. Unfortunately, complications arose, leading to the removal of the prostheses due to infection. As a result, I find myself bedridden, unable to enjoy the freedom I once took for granted.

For six months, I was confined to a hospital bed at Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Cape Town, fighting not just the illness but also the financial strain that comes with extensive medical treatment. Despite having medical aid, there are substantial outstanding bills related to the procedures and care I received. These bills have now been handed over for payment, creating a significant burden for me and my husband, especially considering our status as pensioners.
