Help us lay Antonio to rest

Antonio Amelio Alec Britto, a 22-year-old student at Stellenbosch University, tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday, 30 May 2026. He was a dedicated fourth-year International Relations student who pursued his dreams with determination until the very end.

Antonio was raised in Roodepoort, Gauteng, by his single mother, who worked tirelessly to provide for him and his two siblings. Her strength and sacrifice shaped Antonio into the resilient, compassionate, and driven young man so many knew and loved.

Antonio was a natural leader. He served as Vice-Chairperson of QueerUS (2025/2026), where he was deeply committed to supporting and uplifting underrepresented students. He was an incredibly intelligent individual with a bright future ahead of him, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.

After recently losing his NSFAS funding, Antonio took on two jobs to support himself and continue his studies, an enduring testament to his determination and strength of character, he was not one to ever give up.
