Ava Jacobs was born with a complex congenital heart condition, including heterotaxy syndrome, dextrocardia, situs inversus, double outlet right ventricle, arterial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, and asplenia.
At just seven weeks old, she underwent her first cardiac surgery, a pulmonary artery banding procedure to regulate blood flow to the lungs. As the lungs were flooded with blood.
She went for her 2nd heart surgery the Glenn shunt. It was already a high-risk operation as the blood pressure in the lungs was higher than it should’ve been. All went well & she recovered wonderfully. She was discharged after a week in hospital.
Although the surgery was successful, Ava experienced complications, including right-side pleural effusion, requiring the insertion of a drainpipe. She went back the same day. She was in the hospital for another week. She was discharged & all was well.
