Avuyile Ndamase is a true African surfer, born and raised on the rugged, wave-rich coast of the Transkei. With a powerful style and deep connection to the ocean, he’s risen through the ranks to become one of KZN’s top 5, South Africa’s top 10, and a Top 20 contender on the WSL Africa QS.

This September, Avuyile has been selected to represent South Africa at the World Surfing Games in El Salvador — a career-defining opportunity to compete against the world’s best and fly the flag for African surfers on a global stage.

Avuyile’s story is one of resilience and purpose. He began surfing with his brother Zama, who tragically passed away in a shark attack at their home break. Instead of walking away, Avuyile made it his mission to honour his brother’s legacy — every wave he rides is for Zama, for their shared dream, and for the next generation of African surfers.
