Back a Shark, Back Sbusiso!

Today, 13 Feb 2026, we received the call that could change a young man’s life.

Sbusiso Jiyane — a hardworking, disciplined and deeply respectful young man — has just completed matric and been offered a place at the prestigious Sharks Rugby Academy in Durban where he can pursue his Bcom degree while developing his rugby career.

After not getting a place at the Academy initially, while also facing the harsh reality that many South African universities just have no space to offer new matriculants, despite good marks, he kept applying to various institutions, determined to find a way to begin his studies this year.

And then today, a door opened. A phone call from the academy to say they have a place for him.

Who is Sbusiso?
Sbusiso, who grew up in Hillbrow Johannesburg, has just completed Grade 12 with a Bachelor’s Pass. He proudly represented Parktown Boys’ High School as a First Team Rugby player — a testament to his discipline, talent and character.
