Baviaanskloof Flood Relief

13 May 2026 update: A 4x4 access road has been established over the past 48 hours, enabling the delivery of food parcels donated by Gift of the Givers. A bulldozer is en route to assist with establishing basic driveability of the main public access route, the R332.

The Baviaanskloof and its surrounding communities have been devastated by catastrophic flooding following excessive rainfall over 5-7 May 2026. 

Located in one of South Africa's most isolated regions,  the Baviaanskloof communities are currently cut off. Roads have been destroyed, homes have been damaged or filled with mud and debris, and families are stranded without access to basic supplies. The full extent of the damage has not yet been determined.

These are communities that were already living on the margins. There are no easy routes in or out, no quick fixes, and no municipal safety nets to catch them. Recovery will be slow and expensive, and it will not happen without outside help.
