My dearest family and friends
This week marks the 69 year celebration of the Convention on the Status on Women at the UN in New York City. This is also where many activists and comrades from all over the world will gather to celebrate 30 years of the Beijing conference, where I made a historical speech, urging the UN to recognize lesbian rights as women’s rights. I was supposed to be in New York for these celebrations, but I was hit with new that had me contemplating my whole life, my purpose and my priorities.
About 5 years ago I had to leave my career as a reality TV director when I became too sick to work.
I then partnered with Colour Central to make merchandise to fundraise for medical bills. Specifically, the funds were used for doctor’s visits and for tests to find out what was going on, as waiting lists at public hospitals took up to 2 years. Even so, this was a very frustrating process, with no definitive diagnosis but speculation and guesswork instead.
Like thousands of women that go undiagnosed and /or untreate...
