Blind Councillor swims 26th consecutive Midmar Mile to raise funds for Transoranje School for the Deaf
On 7 February 2026, I will be swimming my 26th consecutive Midmar Mile in support of Transoranje School for the Deaf in Pretoria West.
As a blind individual, I understand first-hand how profoundly disability can shape a person’s access to opportunity, dignity, and independence. I am a practising attorney and a PR Councillor in the City of Tshwane, but above all, I am an advocate for people with disabilities — a cause that is deeply personal to me.
For this milestone swim, I have chosen to raise funds specifically for Transoranje’s Pre-Primary Phase. Transoranje is a public school and registered NPO with a proud history dating back to 1954, providing specialised education to Deaf learners from early childhood through to the end of their schooling journey.
