About This Campaign
The Bluff Dune forms part of the Durban Metropolitan Open Space System (DMoss), a legally protected natural barrier that shields our homes from erosion and collapse. This land belongs to Transnet, which is legally responsible for protecting and securing it. Yet, despite this responsibility, the dune has been unlawfully invaded by squatters. Fragile vegetation has been stripped, unlawful structures erected, and what began as an environmental concern has escalated into a full-scale community crisis with consequences for health, safety, property, and the long-term future of the Bluff.
Why This Matters
- Risk of Collapse: With vegetation destroyed, the dune is destabilised, placing more than 30 homes directly at risk of collapse. Families now live with constant fear for their safety.
- Safety & Crime: The settlement has raised policing and safety concerns, creating ongoing worry for residents and contributing to a sense of increased risk in the area.
