Braveheart's Road to Recovery
Braveheart is a Friesian cross gelding who joined our family just over a year ago. During that time he has become a much-loved member of our herd and an important part of my work, my life and the wider community that has followed his journey.
Recently, Braveheart sustained a serious injury after becoming frightened and attempting to jump a wire fence. In the process, he suffered a deep laceration to his leg which extended to the bone and resulted in damage to his extensor tendon.
Following the injury, Braveheart received urgent veterinary treatment from Baker McVeigh. The wound was thoroughly assessed, cleaned and sutured. Due to the severity of the injury and the involvement of the extensor tendon, ongoing treatment and rehabilitation are required.
Braveheart is currently undergoing a structured recovery programme which includes strict box rest, regular bandage changes, medication, wound management and ongoing veterinary monitoring.
The initial emergency veterinary treatment cost R13,552. Since then, additional expenses...
