At just 1 year and 9 months old, Brycen is fighting a battle no child should ever have to face.
At an age when little boys should be learning new words, taking their first adventurous steps and discovering the world around them, Brycen Vink Gericke is fighting for his life.
On 15 July 2026, his mother, Lerisha Vink, received news that would change their family's lives forever. Her precious baby boy had been diagnosed with leukaemia (blood cancer).
Since that heartbreaking diagnosis, Brycen's tiny body has been enduring chemotherapy treatments two to three times a week at Tygerberg Hospital.
But while Brycen fights his battle against cancer, his mother is fighting a battle of her own.
When Lerisha first took her little boy to hospital, she informed her employer that her child was ill and needed her. The following day, she received devastating news — she was told not to return to work.
