Not long ago, our bright and beautiful 6-year old daughter Carley was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It came as a complete shock. One day she was what we thought a normal girl with a bug and the next, we were rushing to ICU. Since then, our world has changed. Carley now has to navigate every day with insulin injections, sugar checks, food restrictions, and a level of bravery no child should ever have to know but she does it all with her signature sparkle and strength. She is my real-life superhero.
What many don’t see are the quiet struggles, how her little body fights to stay in balance, how her energy dips, and how she sometimes just wants to feel “normal” again. As a mom, all I want is to give her every chance at feeling strong, healthy, and free to be a child.
Alongside Carley’s journey, we also walk a different but equally important path with her older brother, who is autistic. His needs are different, sensory regulation, emotional processing, and navigating a world that often feels overwhelming to him.
