Carpe Diem: Micayla Jenkins

As a little girl, Micayla always dreamed of becoming a chef.

When she arrived at Abraham Kriel Children's Home in Nylstroom at the age of 12, her dream began to take flight.

For Micayla, cooking is more than just preparing food – it is a way to leave the past behind. Naturally introverted, she finds comfort in the quiet space of the kitchen, where she can express her creativity. Our Abraham Coffee Shop has become a sanctuary for her, a place where she has gained valuable knowledge about food and customer service.

Now, Micayla has the opportunity to turn her childhood dream into reality. On 19 February 2025, she embarked on a new chapter at the International Hotel School in Sandton.

The Culinary Arts programme she is pursuing spans two years. Unfortunately, our funds are limited, and we still need R121 500 to cover her first year’s tuition. That’s why we are reaching out to our friends and supporters for help.
