About This Campaign
A US pharmaceutical company, Vertex, developed a new groundbreaking drug, Trixacar.
In a scenario where treatment with Trixacar is initiated between 12 and 17 years, a patient's median estimated lifespan is 82.5 years.
The drug is suitable for most Cystic Fibrosis patients and dramatically slows the progression of the rare, inherited disease, but its high price has made it unattainable for most sufferers.
Trixacar can be obtained with a section 21 authorisation issued by Sahpra and is between R70,000 and R80,000 for a month's supply, depending on the exchange rate.
The CF SA Foundation (NPO) was established to raise awareness of this drug and assist with funding to bring it to many South Africans desperately in need.
People with CF will be able to live a relatively normal life, with their life expectancy changing from a few years to normal life expectancy.
