Teaching Compassion Beyond the Saddle

My name is Charlene Carroll. As District Commissioner of Irene Midrand Pony Club, I spend a lot of time encouraging our children to think beyond themselves, to care properly for their ponies, to be kind, to take responsibility and to show up for their community.

Mandela Day gives us the opportunity to do exactly the same.

Supporting Midrand SPCA felt like a natural fit because animal welfare sits so closely with the values Pony Club teaches every day. Compassion, stewardship and respect for animals are lessons that extend far beyond the stable yard.

By taking part in 67 Minutes Behind Bars for Animals, I hope to help raise much-needed funds to support Midrand SPCA's lifesaving work and ensure that animals in need continue to receive protection, care and a second chance.

Our 67 minutes may seem small, but if they help feed, treat or protect even one animal in need, then they matter.
