Our hearts are shattered as we share the story of little Christiaan Burger, a precious 1-year-old boy who is currently fighting for his life in hospital after being diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening condition called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS).

What started as repeated illnesses and hospital admissions has now turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. Christiaan has already been admitted to hospital five times before the age of two, and doctors have now discovered that he suffers from HUS - a rare condition that attacks the blood and organs, causing his own red blood cells to damage his tiny body.

Christiaan is currently in ICU, on a ventilator and under sedation. This little body has already endured so much:

- Emergency surgery
- Severe internal bleeding
- Organ complications
- Swelling so severe he could no longer walk or breathe properly
- CPR after his tiny heart stopped beating for 4 minutes

Despite all of this, Christiaan continues to fight with incredible bravery.
