Meet James Dunford, a courageous and self-motivated 18 year old who is facing a formidable battle against Osteosarcoma, a ruthless cancer that targets children and young adults.
In October 2022, when James was in Grade 11 at Westville Boys High, he experienced recurring pain in his knee. After scans and biopsies, he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and underwent an operation in Pretoria to remove the tumour and save his leg.
As Chemotherapy and further operations were required, James could no longer continue school at Westville. He was adamant that he wanted to complete his matric in 2023 and therefore enrolled at Curro online.
In September 2023, three months after completing his chemotherapy, James received further devastating news: the osteosarcoma had metastised and spread to his lungs. It appeared that this was spreading aggressively and therefore further surgery and chemotherapy took place during his matric exams. James bravely wrote his matric exams in November 2023 and passed with a Matric exemption.
