Update on Schalk – 15/09/2025 

Schalk was admitted back into hospital on Tuesday the 09/09/25 and later transferred from King Edward to Albert Luthuli for his EUS procedure. Unfortunately, his time in King Edward was once again deeply disappointing and concerning.

Despite being in severe pain from chronic pancreatitis, he was not managed properly. We were told by a junior doctor that saw to Schalk when we booked him in and he took bloods that morphine would be prescribed by a senior doctor as he didn’t have the authorisation to do so, as I told him and showed him the bottle of morphine so he could see the dose he needs I even asked if he would like me to send him a picture, he said no its fine he will write it down and get it prescribed, yet nothing was done. Instead, Schalk was given Adco-Napamol (basically Panado) — completely inadequate for his level of pain — and sometimes, he wasn’t given anything at all, even after asking the nurses he was just ignored and forgotten about.
