Deaf Kids in Karate to Japan

Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf, situated at 1 MOFOKENG SECTION, KATLEHONG, has over 100 children boarding at the school, whom mostly are from disadvantaged homes, from as young as 4years old. And for them to relate with the outside world does become a predicament because of communication barriers between deaf and hearing communities hence they hardly meet any visitors.  The karate team, (Mas se Dojo) prior Covid, had taken part in training seminars with capable hearing clubs, with successful end-results. The team has since been revived (in 2024), with prosperous outcomes, qualifying over the years in Provincial and National tournaments across South Africa. The team has achieved significant success, collecting 53 trophies since 2024, inclusive of most spirited fighter, by a deaf student, making history as the first deaf kids in South Africa to compete in a vocal sport with hearing participants.
