At the start of 2026, our family looked ahead with hope, dreams, and plans for the future. We never imagined how quickly everything would change.

In March, my brother, Dewald Vogel, became ill with what we believed was bronchitis or a severe flu. Like many people, he tried to recover on his own before eventually seeing a doctor, who diagnosed him with a serious infection. Although the infection cleared, Dewald continued experiencing severe chest and back pain. True to his character, he kept working and pushed through the discomfort.

After the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix, Dewald suddenly experienced weakness in his legs, describing them as feeling like jelly with electric shocks shooting from his waist down. The following day, 4 May, I accompanied him to another doctor's appointment, hoping we would finally find answers. After further tests were requested, I dropped him back at work, only to receive a call shortly afterward that he had collapsed.
