Dignity for an innocent victim

My wife and I were brutally attacked after an traffic alteraction. A driver nearly took out my car with my wife and my 6 year old twins in it. Like an idiot I drove after him to have a word. After doing so outside his residence (it's a drug and prostitute den, we later realised) we were brutally assaulted by a game of 5 men (his tenants / employees). 

Long story short, but beyond the roughly R65k damage to my car, my wife suffered a subdural-hematoma and multiple stitch to the forehead, and lost her 4 front teeth. She has some level of brain damage with her memory most affected. I had been without work for 7 months prior to working a few month before this incident. As such the copayment for the scans required, and the R15k required for a temporary solution for her teeth. That temporary solution has now broken, before I have even paid it off. Given I initiated things we have very little recourse and don't have the +R150k to pursue. The police have been useless and this lodge is well known to them, so I believe there are incentives not to proceed with the matter
