Helping Liza Hear

Update 25/02/2023:

We would like to express our gratitude for all the donations received to date!

Liza went for her first cochlear implant on 20 February and is recovering well from surgery. We are waiting in anticipation for the switching on of the device during late March (date to be confirmed).

In terms of our fundraising project, we will continue raising funds for the second implant, which is likely to occur early in 2024 as that is when the medical aid will be willing to make a contribution. This will however be subject again to a sizeable copayment.

We have therefore adjusted the fundraising target to account for the additional interventions Liza requires at the moment in order to learn how to walk and talk. 

During the build up to the big operation we consulted with an orthopedic surgeon regarding her inverted ankles and he recommeded treatment which included 2 weeks in half leg casts. Thanks to the generous contributions received, we were able to pay for this treatment, which had to occur in a day hospital under general anesthesia, w...
