Elna Huisamen is well known to all of us that owns a holiday home in Paternoster and today we want to celebrate Elna's life.
Her life has been profoundly affected by a serious gastrointestinal condition – a perforated bowel – which nearly took her life in 2023. Although surgery saved her, it left her with lengthy recovery periods, confined to her bed.
A gastrointestinal perforation occurs when a hole forms in the stomach, bowel, or small intestine. In Elna's case, a perforation developed in her bowel, along with a hole in her intestine, after carrying heavy gas bottles. This condition led to a severe inflammation known as peritonitis, as the contents of her intestines leaked into her abdominal cavity. Currently, Elna relies on an ostomy bag, which significantly impacts her daily life.
