About This Campaign

Good day. My name is Esme de Klerk grandmother and caregiver to my 17 year old grand daughter Christin de Klerk or otherwise fondly called Chrissie by loved ones. We stay in a small tourist town Dullstroom in Mpumalanga South Africa. Chrissie is not your tipical teenager as she suffers from a terrible disease called Epilepsy. A disease not understood by so many as people suffering this disease does not look ill. Chrissie started having seizures at the age of 9 without warning or cause. During the past 8 years she has endured what no child should have to go through. Her episodes started as absence or tonic clonic seizures. This has gradually over the years developed into: Focal, Focal Aware, Focal Impaired Awareness, Tonic Clonic, and recently new, Myoclonic. A normal day for most of us start with simply opening our eyes for Chrissie it could be the start of a very bad day resulting in many seizures having her go into status epelepticus lasting many hours resulting in ambulance drives and hospitalization.
