Update6 April 2024:
My friend Erna began the Stem Cell Transplant Journey in late February. The transplant was necessary for her to be able to live long-term after battling B-cell lymphoma. The process started with additional chemotherapy to wipe out any lingering cancer cells. On March the 1st she started the Stem Cell Transplant. For most of March she endured many post transplant complications.
At one point in the 32-day hospital stay, the consultant said it was an edge of the knife situation, between life and death. She is an incredibly strong person and really had to fight to be able to overcome the challenges. These include difficulty with eating due to severe sores in the GI tract, loss of appetite, mobility issues and general weakness.
She was transferred to a rehabilitation centre on April 1st. there she will undergo a program that will assist her to
be able to eat again, walk again and strengthen her to prepare for going home.
