Reuben Terblanche is a bright and courageous 12-year-old boy from Oudtshoorn, South Africa. Just a few weeks ago, his life changed in an instant when a freak accident left his sight hanging in the balance. While playing outside — where he’s always felt most at home — an aloe punctured his eye, causing devastating damage. In that moment, the world he knew became uncertain and frightening.

Since the accident, Reuben has faced an uphill battle. Doctors and eye specialists have worked tirelessly to stabilize his condition, but the damage is severe. He is now on the waiting list for a cornea transplant — his best chance at regaining his sight. If all goes well, the procedure will take place in Cape Town in two weeks. But the surgery is just the beginning of a long and difficult road to recovery, one that will test not only his strength but also the strength of his family.
