Faieq Samodien

Growing up in a community where hope was often in short supply, Faieq was one of many at-risk youth facing the daily challenges of insufficient resources and social ills. His life began to change in 2013 when he became one of the first students to join 9Miles Project. With the support of 9Miles, Faieq was given the chance to break free from his circumstances, gaining necessary experiences that allowed him to travel, explore new skills, and connect with inspiring individuals from different walks of life.

Through mentorship, surf therapy, and educational programmes, Faieq acquired the skills and confidence to rise above his challenges. Today, he is a qualified swimming instructor, certified freediver, surf coach, and surfboard technician—an embodiment of the transformative power of 9Miles Project.

Now, as a swimming instructor at Little Mermaids Swim School, Faieq is passionate about empowering the next generation, just as he was empowered. His journey has fueled a deep desire to give back to the community that shaped him.
